"On May 19, 2013 one hundred and thirty-nine people representing 33 different local churches performed a passion play on the downtown streets of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. These were Christians from all different denominations working together in unity, without rivalry or petty debates. That kind of thing can only be credited to God's Holy Spirit helping Christians love each other in Jesus' name."So begins the remarkable account of the Passion Play performed publicly in the square of my hometown, and the individual testimonies from writers, actors, musicians, the director and others involved of how the Lord led them to carry out this tremendous act of worship and sacrifice, and how He threaded the individual parts together to complete a masterpiece.
Many of the people involved were ones I know personally, and some of the testimonies I'd heard but nearly forgotten. Other stories were brand new to me. Each caused me to marvel afresh at the goodness and kindness and wisdom of God.
Rachel Kerr is a gifted writer and I enjoyed her commentary and prose, as well as the photos and scriptures included. Look forward to seeing more of her work, particularly as I saw she is presently working on a compilation of short stories.

Compelling and easy to read. Tells the stories well of those willing to be used of God and how He worked intimately in their lives. Inspiring.
Read this in one sitting and was overwhelmed by the true story of faithful service, and God's goodness. I'll probably reread it again more slowly, letting each person's individual narrative sink in.
Very, very quick read. Compelling and told in various voices to match the different perspectives. Tells a moving and interesting story about churches in a small town coming together, despite adversity, to present the gospel through musical drama in their town square. You will be inspired.
What an amazing compilation of God's working and leading in the lives of those who hear and know His voice, then obey His leading. I read this in one sitting and I am not a reader as I get distracted too easily. This is a must read! Great job, Rachel!
Rachel Kerr captured the heart level declarations of various participants in a Passion Play production as she unfolded their stories, sifted through all their shared details, and presented to us , the readers, insight into "behind the scenes " action, struggles, and joys leading up to and journeying through the actual performance. Presented is a glimpse of the tapestry of community members desiring to be involved in an attestation of an event which each wanted to be shared. While the book itself is easily read, I felt a desire to linger and ponder some of the accounts.
Take a moment or two for this sweet reality read.
Stage Direction is filled with encouragement that is sure to reach the hearts of all who read it. It's not always easy to tell someone else's story, but this author eloquently composed each individual's tale in a way that reflected the character of each person and the writing style of the single author. The use of photographs, musical compositions, and scripture added to the uniqueness that Rachel Kerr has to offer as an author. Each story has the fortitude to stand alone as a unique tale of God's love and yet together they provide the full story of God's sovereignty in the production of the Passion Play. This parallels the composition of God's Word itself; multiple stories brought together to show God's Story throughout the centuries. Stage Direction also provides yet another example of how the Body of Christ can be used for His Glory. Each part has its own job, and yet together, greater things are accomplished. I must speak again on the uniqueness of each story, for I connected with some tales more than others. I believe that the range of stories is broad enough to speak to anyone who reads it. There is a story in there for all of us, go find it! Lastly, because each chapter was its own, I was easily able to read one tale, put the book down, and read another one later. This was perfect for my busy schedule, where I may only have 15 minutes at a time to read. I highly recommend this book to those who wish to be encouraged by God's love and sovereignty in our lives. I look forward to what this author may bless us with in the future.
There are times when you need something you can pick up and enjoy in one sitting or maybe two. This was one of those books for me. Each chapter tells the story of a different individual's unique experience as part of a passion play in a small town in Pennsylvania. The real beauty is in the combination of the chapters coming together to make up the complete story of God using surrendered people to bring about an experience that could only be of His doing. This is a true-life story of God working in the lives of real people.
