Another great story from Ellen Anthony. An Earth-side view of the mystery in Shadow Mars along with the start of totally new mystery. Most of the characters we liked in the previous Jasper Stone books are back again along with some interesting new characters. As usual it is the combination of mystery and personalities that make her stories so enjoyable.Jasper Stone and Jewell West are both in great form although the story is more Jasper's than Jewell's. That's also been the case in the previous books - not that Jewell exactly gets left out, but Jasper is the detective. He does need Jewell's help to solve the problems though.
This is less a police procedural than the previous books and more a detective story. It is definitely not noir though. Everything is pretty much upbeat throughout the story.

After a week of nonstop reading of the Jasper Stone series, I feel bereft. The characters felt real, and were remarkably varied, and I miss them already. Despite the complexity of the plots (some threads arced over several books), the action bustled along through the not-too-distant future, driven mostly by the characterizations. I usually take off a star for editing and grammar errors, but common homonym mixups and incorrect past tense verbs were not a stumbling block for me this time.
